God was merciful to those who rebelled from English rule and eventually became America. I cannot agree with this article written by Chuck Baldwin. The Bible clearly states that we are to obey the law of the land and the authorities He places over us so long as it does not go against His Word. Rebelling against taxes and the rule of the King of England was not godly [remember the Lord Himself said that the disciples were to faithfully pay their taxes and "And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at Him"(Mark 12:17)and "Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king"(1 Peter 2:17)]. It is only by the mercy of God if America has been blessed at all. Did you know that the first American president was a 33rd degree freemason? Nothing about the beginnings of America is something to be proud of. Nowhere in the New Testament is the Church encouraged to be proud of their country or to be involved in anything political but rather to live in humility and look to their heavenly country - "But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city"(Hebrews 11:16). That verse seems to almost imply that if the country you are looking for is not heaven, God is ashamed of you. And as you know, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon"(Matthew 6:24). "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth" (Colossians 3:1-2). There is freedom in letting politics go and letting God be God. He places authority over us and our job is just to pray for that authority (see 1 Timothy 2:1-2).

I don't think Chuck was telling us to rebel against the government, but to take a stand for what we want to be passed or stopped in congress. America is the Government for the people and by the people, so we are the government body. He is telling us not to be passive, or to take America's liberties for granted. Like the early settlers, they took action and we should always be taking action to voice what is Biblical in America. God is our authority but if we stand, he will fight for us.

It's like how everyone just hid in their camps while Goliath and his army cursed God and mocked God. David came out, told his brothers, "Is there not a cause?" and God used this little boy in a mighty way.

I thought he was condoning rebellion in the following passage: "Had pastors and Christians of colonial America believed and acted as most Christians believe and act today, this country would still be a Crown colony and we would never have known the freedoms and liberties that our forebears bequeathed to us. Christians of that era, however, believed that it was their duty and obligation to fight for right and do everything within their power to resist tyranny." America gained that freedom by rebelling against the King of England and deciding they would not pay their taxes or be aligned with the King God placed in authority over them.
If the government wants to do something and we stand up against it, we are rebelling against what they want, whether it's one of our "civil rights" or not. As pilgrims in this land we don't have any rights except what God gives us, because we are not citizens of Earthly nations, but of a Heavenly country (God's kingdom). The Bible plainly states that and that we are not to become involved in combating the governments that be in power over us, no matter how large, corrupt, evil or anything. Paul didn't combat the Roman empires laws that locked him up in Rome. And he certainly had a lot of ammunition, should he have chosen to use it. The Roman government of that day makes Obama look like a complete declawed KITTEN by comparison!! -Daniel and Clara

The story of David (who was closer to 30 and not so "little" ;) when this happened) and Goliath is somewhat different - this occured in a different period of God's dealings with man when God was dealing with Israel and fighting for them in a way that we don't see today, today being the era of the grace of God. In that period of time, God used judges to deal with sin - today He uses the blood of His Son to deal with sin and that being rejected, He will one day judge each person individually. This means that we live under what we see in the New Testament, and there we see no evidence that God supports our becoming involved in politics in any way. He is merciful and can use any thing He chooses, but becoming involved in politics is not His idea for us.

Clara, how much do you know about our constitution? It's made for 'We the People" WE employ this president and we have the constitutional right to stand up and say that we don't like something he is doing. That is not rebellious, it's our RIGHT. If enough people say NO to abortion he MUST listen! Yes we are to pay our taxes, but when he uses our money to support abortions we DO have the right to tell him we don't like it.

His letter is stating that we must not become lazy in our American duty to stand up for Christ. If someone was making decisions that directly affected YOUR family would you 'only' pray for them or would you tell them to stop and protect your family?

Obama is creating a stimulus package that takes MY money to give girls abortions, killing innocent babies. I am NOT okay with that and in our nation we have the right to say so. On top of that he will require the next generation to pay the government back for those abortions. NOT RIGHT. My Christian children should not be required to pay for today's girls who seek abortion. They SHOULD be abstaining from sex, not making my children pay for their choice of birth control.

And abortion is not the only thing that he is doing with our money. He is NOT obeying God's Word and he is putting US in the position to violate our own relationship with God. That's dictatorship! We will not sit by ONLY praying, we must pray YES, but not ONLY pray, while our nation becomes another Hitler invasion in America's clothing.

One more thing, Christopher Columbus and MANY other Christians came here TO spread the Gospel and be free from religious persecution in England. That is something to be proud of. Although we have masons who came over as well, the point to get away from England was for religious freedom. Read our constitution and get a hold of the Federalist Papers that began our nation. It's FULL of scripture and Biblical principles.

Clara, you're a sweet lady, but when I read your comments it gives me the impression that you may not understand the full scope of what we are facing here.

Someday, Clara, the government will tell us to take a mark of the beast on our forehead and right hand. If we do not do this, then we are 'rebelling' against the government and there will be a death penalty for this.

America escaped from the dark ages where it was illegal to be a Christian. England wanted to force all people to follow their own man-made religion that defied God. Millions were martyred and killed for their faith, which to me, they took a stand on Biblical truth, not seeking to just be rebellious.

This government currently is based upon the people and we have representatives. If we speak up, tell them what we need as the people, the representatives will hear us and eventually, the president will. If we do not speak up, then democracy is in void. If you think about it, we are not rebelling against the government, but rather putting the American democracy in effect. It's there to be used.

God is also the same yesterday, today and forever. We have been given grace for salvation by the shedding of the blood of Jesus. The law of forgiveness (by the shedding of unblemished blood) was not changed, but paid in full. God created prophecy and prophets to warn us of an upcoming destruction. Even in Revelations, you will still see that when God pours his spirit down to his people and they will prophecy.

"BLESSED is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near." (Revelation 1:3)

And I think of prophecy as a fire warning. Imagine there is a fire storm in a town and there have been warnings from others to flee, get out before it's too late. What if a person says, "no, it won't happen to me. God will stop this fire before it arrives to my house?" God does try to warn us with prophecies, and whoever listens can be prepared.
