Funny how Jeremiah wrote that about trees way before Christ was born therefore christmas trees do not have ANYTHING to do with christmas. I dont understand why people cannot make that connection!

Great article Charlene! You did a great job explaining everything!

Love,
Miss Amanda
The Daily PlanetSuperAngelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00832510750404343195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9079423230484017111.post-82361286379389310552008-12-03T14:34:00.000-08:002008-12-03T14:34:00.000-08:00Awesome post as usual Charlene. That is a good...Thank you for your comment Theresa! That is a good question! I do notice there are idols made of wood, as well as gold, silver, brass, and whatever they have there!

I re-read the verse carefully and it sounds to me that it is explaining that a workman who has an axe cuts down a tree which they nail down and decorate. It didn't mention a craftsman or a carver who designs idols out of the tree. But I think it could apply to idols as such too. But we also have to nail down the trees (before the tree stands nowadays), and idols aren't usually nailed down but set down upon something.

Evergreen trees were idols and objects of worship in Paganism because they survived the winter. They symbolized everlasting life. I think that any object of worship other than God is abhored by him. I am sure you think the same too.

I believe you when you say there's a freedom in not being a part of this, and I am already starting to feel it. It seems like the burden is lighter and I was JUST thinking that tonight driving to church! :)Serendipitymom12https://www.blogger.com/profile/17382537024913749732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9079423230484017111.post-53002745995685094132008-12-02T20:24:00.000-08:002008-12-02T20:24:00.000-08:00Thank you so much for posting this and letting God...Thank you so much for posting this and letting God to work in your heart. My Grandma (1906-2002) told me this for years, but I did not take it to heart until I had children and we have drastically cut out most of Christmas. We do discuss the birth of Christ and celebrate that but tell them it's NOT his BD but that it's important he was born a man. It's in our church, our family, the world around us, hard to escape and people think we are nuts. But how can we choose to "celebrate Jesus" with the things of an idol and an abomination to Him? The only thing I wanted to ask you about that I wasn't sure about was the Jeremiah verse. My Grandma also said that was a tree with tinsel, but when I read it, to me it sounds like an idol where they made it of wood and overlayed it with precious metals and propped it up to sit/stand or whatever in their shrines or homes. Either way it doesn't change the fact that Christmas trees are pagan, just wondered what you thought. Thank you for being brave and posting this! I'm praying about what God would have me post on my blog. Oh, btw, once you get used to the idea of changing what you've always done - there is a tremendous freedom in not getting caught up in all the hubbub of the holidays! :o)Theresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14899362427418198858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9079423230484017111.post-83359775687006163162008-12-02T16:23:00.000-08:002008-12-02T16:23:00.000-08:00Maybe it's being hit on a lot.
